A 1960 CCHS graduate, Bill Schwarz was a four-sport athlete in football, basketball, cross country, and track and field. He was the all-time leading scorer in Columbia City boys' basketball from 1960 until 2020 and still ranks second on the school's all-time scoring list. He holds career and single-season basketball records including career scoring average, career field goals made, points in a season, field goals made in a season and in a single game, and most points in a single game.
A four-time all-conference selection, Bill led the Eagles to two sectional titles, earned the prestigious CCHS Honor Blanket, and was named MVP of the 1960 Indiana-Ohio All-Star Game. He went on to Michigan State University on a basketball scholarship, earning Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors along with a sportsmanship award.
