A 1988 CCHS graduate, Deb Johnson competed in cross country, basketball, and track and field. In cross country she was a four-time state qualifier and three-time first-team all-state, finishing as high as fourth at the IHSAA state meet. In track and field she was a six-time state qualifier, winning state titles in both the 100m and 300m hurdles as a junior and finishing state runner-up in both events as a senior.
She still holds CCHS school records in the 400m dash, 300m hurdles, and 400m relay, and held the state record in the 300m hurdles for 24 years. At Indiana University she was a four-year letter winner and still holds a top-five time in the 400m hurdles. In 2000, Deb was inducted into the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame.
